Under 18s Band Classes

“Music can change the world, because it can change people.”

Bono - 1983 US Music Festival

Our Under 18s Band Classes give young musicians aged 8–17 (with at least six months of playing experience) the chance to experience the excitement of playing in a real band — supported by specialist tutors, high-quality gear, and a dedicated Safeguarding Lead present in every U18 group.

We offer three levels — Beginner, Foundational, and Intermediate — each tailored to a different stage of musical development.

Beginner classes run on Saturdays and are divided into three age groups to create the most supportive environment for first-time band players.
Each class includes up to 20 musicians (four drummers, four bassists, four guitarists, four keyboardists, and four vocalists) and is split into two parts: instrument-specific group tuition followed by a full band rehearsal.

Our Foundational and Intermediate classes are for young musicians further along in their journey — ready to come prepared, having rehearsed their parts independently. There is no breakout tuition at these levels; the focus is on collaborative band performance from the first session.

Classes run mid-week after school (typically 16:30–18:00) and follow our proven band format, working through a curated setlist that develops musicality, style and ensemble skills — always within a safe and well-supervised environment.

Beginner

Our new Beginner Band Classes are designed for young musicians ready to play with others for the first time, with dedicated instrument-specific teachers guiding every step. The program offers the perfect mix of structured instruction and real band experience.

Each class includes four drummers, four bassists, four guitarists, four keyboardists, and four vocalists — creating a supportive, collaborative setting where students learn alongside peers on the same instrument.

Every session includes two phases:

Instrument Breakout Sessions (First Half)

Students split into five instrument groups (drums, bass, guitar, keys, and vocals) to work with their specialist teacher. Silent rehearsal mixers allow multiple groups to practice in the same space while still hearing their parts with clarity.

Full Band Rehearsal (Second Half)

Groups then come together to perform as a full band, switching from silent setups to professional live gear — the same equipment used in our advanced classes and jam nights. This gives students the excitement of a real live-band experience from day one.

These classes are the perfect first step into band performance, helping young musicians build technique, timing, teamwork, and stage confidence — all while having fun and making music together.

Foundational & Intermediate

Our Foundational and Intermediate Under 18 Band Classes are for young musicians who are ready to move beyond the basics and take greater responsibility for their playing. Unlike the Beginner level, students are expected to learn their parts independently before arriving, allowing sessions to focus on performance, ensemble skills, and real band dynamics.

Both levels run mid-week after school (16:30–18:00) and are tailored to support students at different stages of progression:

  • Foundational builds independence and confidence by working on more challenging songs with targeted tutor guidance when needed.

  • Intermediate pushes students further with complex material, higher accountability, and a more professional rehearsal approach, with tutors acting more like musical directors than instructors.

Across both stages, the emphasis is on self-sufficiency, musical growth, and collaborative performance — preparing young musicians for more advanced ensembles and real-world live playing.
