Adult Band Classes

"Music isn't just learning notes and playing them, you learn notes to play to the music of your soul."

Katie Greenwood

Our Adult Band Classes are an exciting musical journey designed to boost your playing, build confidence, and get you performing in a real band setting. You'll join a small group of musicians and work on a set of songs spanning rock, pop, funk, blues, and jazz—tailored to your skill level.

There are four levels to choose from: Beginner, Foundational, Intermediate, and Advanced. We’ll assess your playing before you join to make sure you’re placed in the right group. Once you’re offered a place, a £100 non-refundable deposit (including VAT) secures it, and the rest is due 14 days before your first session.

The Beginner course runs for 10 weeks, while all other levels run for 12 weeks. Song lists are released ahead of time so you can come in prepared—we want to jump straight into making music together, not spend the whole session learning the basics of the tune.

At the end of term, you'll perform live with your band, celebrating everything you’ve worked on. Just make sure you can attend at least 80% of sessions—your commitment makes a big difference to the whole group.

Beginner

If you’ve never played in a band before, Beginner Band is the perfect place to start. You’ll be supported every step of the way by tutors who focus on your instrument specifically, helping you build confidence and get used to playing with others.

You’ll be in a group with up to four drummers, four bassists, four guitarists, four keyboardists, and four vocalists. Each session runs for 1 hour and 50 minutes and takes place on Saturdays. The time is split between instrument group work and full band rehearsals.

Over 10 weeks, you’ll work on six songs chosen by your tutors to help you build a solid foundation. By the end, you’ll be more confident, more experienced—and ready for the next step.

Foundational

These classes are for musicians who are still fairly early in their band-playing journey but are ready to take on a bit more responsibility. You won’t have group instrument tuition anymore—instead, you’ll be expected to come prepared so you can jump straight into playing with the band.

Unlike the Beginner level, which runs for 10 weeks, Foundational Band Classes run for 12 weeks, giving you even more time to grow and settle into the full band experience.

Sessions are 90 minutes long and take place on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday evenings. Bands are smaller than at the beginner level, with just two drummers, two bassists, three guitarists, two keyboardists, and two vocalists. Foundational keyboardists get extra support in the form of video tutorials and pre-programmed sounds.

You’ll work on eight songs during the term—six picked by your tutor, and two chosen by the group.

Intermediate

Ready for a proper challenge? Intermediate Band Classes are a step up in every way. You’ll be working with more complex songs, tighter arrangements, and higher expectations when it comes to your playing, timing, and group dynamics.

Just like the Foundational classes , these run for 90 minutes on Tuesdays or Thursdays. Group sizes are the same too, but the material will push you further musically and technically. You’ll still work on eight songs over the term, handpicked to develop your skills and get you thinking and playing like a more advanced musician.

Advanced

Advanced Band Classes are for experienced musicians who want an intimate, high-level experience. These groups are small—just one drummer, bassist, and keyboardist, with two guitarists and two vocalists—so everyone really has to hold their own and commit to the music.

We’ll choose a few songs to kick things off, then the rest of the set is chosen by the group with your tutor’s input. The vibe is collaborative, focused, and challenging—in the best way. Because the class size is smaller and the level of attention is higher, the fee for this group is slightly more.

Sessions are 90 minutes long and happen on Wednesday or Thursday evenings.
